2001 Civic,买时为新车 本以为日车可靠性高.
- 六个月内前shock 换了(保修期内)
- 一次Recall,Fuel Line 问题
- alternator 工作不正常,更换(保修期内)
- Daytime Driving Module 坏了,更换 $300
- 加油门控制线松了,加油门打不开,换线$100
- Back row one side window 控制线腐蚀,不能开窗$200
- 空调控制Module 坏了,更换 $150
- 左前Speaker 接触不良,没修,过了几天又好了(省了笔钱)
- Torque Convertor 工作不正常,更换(96,000km Honda 终于同意更换,Part of Transmisson 保修期内100,000KM)
- Ball Joint 过度磨损,准备更换,但如下事件发生了
- 200,000km 时前轴行驶中断裂,幸好速度不快,否则你就不会看到这跟帖了,更换前轴和Ball Joint $450 + 拖车$110
- 210,000km Manifold 漏油,发动机 Cylinder Cap 漏油, Cylinder Cap 更换$100. Manifold 不换了,估价$2,000 to change
- 防锈做了8年,发现门的边缘依然开始生锈,钱扔水里了, 轮胎, 刹车片... 正常损耗就不提了

10万公里Civic换变速箱我见过两个，行驶中断前轴我也在多伦多见到过。你全赶上就属于命苦了。

Agree with you, believe Civic is still good or OK car, however I had really bad luck. Forgot another item, wind shield fluid sensor also stopped working, stays on since 160,000 km. Part of the lesson, don't buy first year model, a lot of bugs in it.
Also I should've sued HONDA for 行驶中断前轴, it is a fatal defect!

so most of the car starts giving problems from 100k km or 6 years onwards. some even early...

not too long ago, someone in cfc mentioned car life can last more than 200k km withoug problems... dunno how true it is now or just merely bs...

I would say today's cars are pretty reliable. Normal wear and tear is expected, but they should not have big problems. I junked 2 cars in the last few years. Both are 15 years old and very high mileage.

1986 VW Jetta: 350k km. (should be higher because odometer stopped working 2 years before I junked it.) I broke the fuel pump accidentally.

1990 Dodge Caravan: 360k km. Power train and body were still good. Totaled in an accident.

Any car can last over 15 years if
1.You take care of them.
2.Do homework before buying.
3.Have a bit of luck.

I believe people buy expensive cars for a piece of mind. It is OK and reasonable.

I take it a challenge to spend time and effort to shop for a reliable car with a reasonable price. I did learn a lot in the process.

Just some personal experience.

Year of 2000 Toyota Corolla, never failed emission tests; still works fine.
- mostly on local roads and its mileage is 80KM;
- Every year, change oil twice + full maintenance: $140 / year.
- Year 2007: changed brake + timing belt + full maintenance : $2000

The only concern for me: It is too light and floats on highway.

也不一定。我发现经常是first year model可能是为了笼络顾客，在做工上更仔细些，在选材上更不cheap一些，当然第一年出来肯定会有更多bug，但如果不是致命的bug的话，第一年的model我倒觉得有些优势。不过通常第一年的model贵一些。
