Everything should be evaluated in a historical context. Till early 20th century, Chinese people had been enslaved for over 300 hundred years by a minority people. Then, China was almost lost to Japanese invaders. If the Japanese didn't make the mistake to attack US or UK interests in South Asia, China probably won't exist today.

Any people to experience such a dramatic ride probably have to pay heavily in sacrifices.

As a Chinese, one should learn seriously from this experience and be careful when seeking social changes. Mao obviously had limitations and so is Deng. However, the direction selected by Deng for China has proven to be right at least till now. Did anyone notice the government change every 4 or 8 years in China ? This is a huge step towards a more open and equal society. It is no easy task but Deng initiated the process by focusing on development rather than idealogical sides of things.

Plus, China is now strategically bound with US. This is a very smart move and one shouldn't underestimate this ....

白起，一代战神，最终被贬为士兵，而后被迫自杀，史记记载：其临死前醒悟，对秦国无罪，但是坑杀40万赵军，其该得次下场。

所谓的英雄项羽，坑杀了好像30万秦军，也落得了乌江自刎的下场，其兵败前亦称天要灭他，所以他不过江东。

有时候总觉得这种话是自我安慰的，比如当年屠杀中国人的蒙元满清不仅没有“还”，子孙也没有“还”，反倒是被当年被肆意屠杀的人的子孙们奉为一代天骄，中华的骄傲。
 
明朝打败蒙古，应该也杀了不少蒙古人。文化上，蒙满不是基本给同化成汉人了？满文的好像是彻底消失了。满族世居的东北土地基本是没有了，狭义上讲，满族是亡国灭种了。

成吉思汗和洪秀全等都是当年大陆篡改历史，骗人的东西。骗得是无知的老百姓，包括曾经的我。随着信息传播的发展，真实的历史终究会被还原。

明朝打败蒙古，死伤的是军人，对蒙古百姓没有大规模屠杀，太祖说：“归我者永安于中华，背我者自窜于塞外”，给了蒙古人两天很宽容的选择。明朝建立后甚至有很多人在明朝做官为将。满清也是差不多。后来的中国人不是一样奉当年疯狂野蛮屠杀中国人用中国人为奴隶的成吉思汗，努尔哈赤为中华英雄吗？

至于满蒙被汉化是不是算“还”，很难说，这种同化其实是双向的，现代中国人很多的不好的性格都是从野蛮民族来的，中国人没有完全异化或者亡国灭种只不过占了能生人多而已，否则没准也跟当年的 花剌子模，西夏，大食一样连谈论“天道的存在，罪恶滔天者，出来混终究是要还的，即便不是其本人，其子孙也要去还”的机会也没有

所以我有时候想，人就应该活在当下，为了文明自由正义奋斗在当下，让反人类反社会的人报应在当下，不能总靠自欺欺人活着。

只要还是共产党领导，中国就被视为西方的敌人。
美国对中国和以前对苏联是同样看待的。过去一年就搞了十次军演。都是针对中国的。不过中国和苏联确实不同，无论美国怎么搞法都跟没事似的。:D
美国和盟国只能用经济手段，想办法把中国整垮。

That is why Deng is smart in letting more and more Chinese coming abroad to study and visit. This shall allow more controlled changes in China as shown in the past 30 years.

The biggest thread to China is definitely not US or its allies. As a nuclear power, military threat shouldn't be an issue. It is probably unrealistic for any allies to invade China proper.

The biggest thread is always from inside - people wanting social changes in the name of justice but who either have a different agenda or over-estimate their power of control.

An open and democratic society is based on people with knowledges. As more and more people in China are turning that way, it is not difficult to foresee a more open and stable society in China ...

没有外力， 中国改朝换代很难。看看CFC 有那么多人支持共产党就知道难度了，中国人比较窝朗，政府怎么欺压都行。

中国最大的威胁肯定是美国。没有其它国家把中国当竞争对手。

清朝灭亡是鸦片战争和甲午海战的打击。
民国被赶走是日本请略，和苏联的阴谋。苏联本想让中国以长江为界一分为二。谁知老毛和金日成一样，一定要通吃。虽然大陆比台湾大几十倍。
但是本质上和朝鲜与韩国的关系一样。中国仍是个分裂的国家。

Peaceful evolution is the best way. Over time, the current governing party in China can evolve to be an open and democratic party. At that time, just change the name to something else. This is the best path for China.

US helped China big time in WWII. In the subsequent event, this help was not well regarded due to political reasons. In this sense, China owes US something.

US is definitely not a threat to China. Current Chinese government actually knows this pretty well. Otherwise, there is no way China will hold so much US debt. As a nuclear power, China is not a country that can be threatened militarily. One has to admit this strategic move was done at Mao's age.

A good relationship with US shall help China to transition to a better society, albeit minor conflicts that are unavoidable.

Deng is a very smart strategist and knows what is important. Imagine China has two fleets of carriers. At that time, do you think Taiwan and South China sea will be an problem ? Provided China takes a carrot plus stick policy.

As Sun Zi Art of War said, the best way is to make the achievements without a battle.

当时的蒙古人所有壮年男人都是军人，他们的所谓百姓是老人、妇女和孩子，只要是人类都不应该去屠杀这些弱者，只有禽兽如成吉思汗和日本鬼子才干那事。说成吉思汗是英雄的是欺骗，即便有13亿人上当，只要你自己是清醒的，那摩对于你，成吉思汗就不是英雄。

天道报应对于一个民族和国家来说，不是看他人口的生死，要看其做为一个整体的实力。元清两朝以后的蒙古、满族在文化和领土、经济方面都落后于从前，所以说，他们还了。

中华文化包容性很强，自然就不仅吸收好的东西，糟粕吸收的也不少，汉、唐、明朝的官员要比清朝耿直得多。清朝的官员以奴才为尊称...

如果那时大陆仍然持有被蒋介石从大陆运到台湾的黄金的话，中国大陆的发展应该是另一番景象，CFC网上那些自称是“这种普通百姓人家”的后代应该也不会像现在这样“端起碗来吃肉，放下筷子来骂娘”了。
