Police board chair ‘thankful’ for courage of bystanders

A series of cases where bystanders have stepped in to help strangers and have ended up hurt or killed has the chair of Ottawa’s Police Services Board thinking this Thanksgiving. Eli El-Chantiry, who oversees the city’s police force, knows the subject of whether or not passersby should interject themselves into dangerous situations is a complicated one.
