I've received a call today from CGI HR, they are looking for a full-time senior unix system administrator, unfortunately someone I referred earlier had landed a 5-year contract with the Department of Defence.

Dan: I don't have the job description, but you could imagine what a sys admin usually does: maintaining production/testing environments, backup/recovery, system config, network config, shell scripting, etc. They are looking for a senior consultant, full-tme employee with fringe benefits. If you think you are qualified, then email me your resume, I have to fill out a referral form.
Oh one more thing: you should have or have the ability to obtain enhanced security clearance. Most of CGI's projects involve federal government, they need at least ERC (Enhanced Reliability Check).

Thanks, Sage! But I'm afraid that I am not qualified for it, as I've no security clearance. Not at all.

That's ok. How long have you been to Canada, more than a year? Where did you work before coming to Canada? See it all depends, many factors involved. I'm not sure about the details, but if you are a Canadian, I don't think there is any problem at all; or if you are a landed immigrant, but have been to Canada for a while, it should be ok as well.
If you are qualified, give it a shot first, and let CGI worry about ERC. The worst thing is that they can't give you an offer because of security clearance, but you can later brag about it to other companies.
