"4 weeks, with a family of 2 adult and 1 kids. Visited 9 countries, cost about $10,000"

2005 August, if you time right, you can try running with the bulls, it was something you will remember for a long time. The hotel is extremely expensive, around 400 Euro per night.

Here's the route I took. landed in London England (4 days), took Eurostar to Paris(5 days), took my daughter to Euro Disney while wife went shopping, did all the tourist sites. Most memorable thing was picnic in Elysee palace, with champagne and snacks.

Picked up the car drove to Bruges, Belgium (3 days). We end up in Bruges because I thought it was the capital city of Belgium, of course I was wrong, but it is a very nice little tourist town. Most memorable thing was got lost diving 3 in the morning, can't find anybody speak English and the street with extremely long names.

Stopped at Amsterdam Netherlands, walked by their red district. Walked around for 2 hours and still couldn't find a weed house. Most memorable thing was they have more bicycles than Beijing.

Drove through Germany at 230+ KM/hour at their freeway, still have cars pass me by. Bought some German sausage. Most memorable thing was trying to record on my camera while driving at 230KM/h.

Next to Austria( cause our daughter loved "the sounds of music") stayed in Vienna for 3 days. I was surprised how many Chinese are artists drawing portraits there, guess we just don't see that in Ottawa.

Then went to FLorence Itly (2days), told by a couple from Taiwai that there are some of the best ice cream in the world, and church took 400 years to build.
Venice ( 3 days) the most beautiful place of this trip. Most memorable was people were so nice, offered free ice cream to my daughter. We were treated very well everywhere we went.

Rome (5 days), totally amazed what people built 2000 years ago, way beyond what China have done, in term of engineering. Totally shocked!

Pisa passed by, the tower is still standing.and we end up in a small town beside the ocean, I still don't know the name, but it was beautiful. All the houses with red tops (3days)) Don't think they ever had any Chinese visited that place, we certainly didn't see any Asian while we were there. guess it's too small to be visible on the map.

Drove though France to catch running with the bulls in Pamplona (2days), got scratched by the bull, damn bulls looked a lot bigger in person than in the pictures. Most memorable are the people on the street, all cheerful, drunk and wearing white cloth and red belt.

Then drove back to Paris, returned the car, fly back to Canada.

I didn't plan the route until I arrived in London, I had a copy of "lonely planet Europe" and basically went with our feelings of wherever we wanted to go, plan 1 day ahead of there we want to stay. it was a great trip, too bad my daughter couldn't remember much of the trip, she was 5.

One day in Florence may be okay, but one day in Rome? Are you kidding? You don't even have time to visit the museums there. Just Roman Forum itself spent us more than half a day. Also you need to spare some time for line up at tourist attractions. If you don't plan to see the museums there, don't go. Wait until next time.

Musee du Louvre spent me a full day just to see one section of the museum, so 2 days in Paris is too short. You will need at least 3 days to quickly see the major things. Also you have to wait in the line to enter the museum due to security procedure.

I think your plan should be revised to just focus on two countries instead of going to many locations to see nothing. This is not travel at all. You need to spare some time to familiar yourself to the transit system at each location. Sometimes it's not as easy as you read on travel websites. My experience tells me that you always spare extra time, such as half an hour at each attraction, for incidentals.

Last time when we were catching the train from Venice to Florance, the sign on the train was misleading and we thought we were on the wrong train that happened to stop at the right platform. It took us some time to figure out that the train was right. It was just the captian forgot to change the sign. Something like that could happen so you have to make sure your time is sufficient enough.

I think the cost you mentioned is not expensvie at all, and I wonder how much we need to budget if going there in these two years.

I like Lonely Planet books, and used them as Bible when we went to any new places. Thanks for sharing your route. 4 weeks is kind of too luxury for us and we'll think about 2 weeks with less countries.

BTW, I think I know who you are :p

1 or 2 days

2 days

1 day

1 day

0.5 day

1 day

1 day

1 day

Hostel
