The capital region’s unemployment rate dropped sharply in July to 6.3 per cent, down from 6.7 per cent in June, Statistics Canada reported Friday.
It is the lowest rate since December.
The rate drop was attributed to the creation of 3,400 jobs in the region, while the workforce increased by just 400.
All the job market improvement was on Ottawa side in July, where the jobless rate dropped to 6.3 per cent from 6.9 per cent in June. Gatineau’s rate climbed marginally to 6.5 per cent.
Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate fell to seven per cent in July, down from 7.1 per cent in June.
