The national capital region showed an impressive drop in the jobless rate in August.
The rate fell to 5.9 per cent from 6.3 per cent in July, largely due to 6,100 fewer people in the labour force, along with 3,000 fewer jobs.
In Ottawa, the rate fell to 5.9 per cent in August, from 6.5 per cent in July, while on the Gatineau side, the rate climbed to 5.8 per cent from 5.5 per cent over the same period.
Drilling down by sector in capital region, federal government jobs slipped by 4,300 in August, to reach 143,700, the lowest since November.
High-tech employment climbed 1,600 to 48,800 jobs in the region in August, the sixth straight monthly rise but down 1,900 from a year ago.
