A man fled a boarding house Sunday morning after getting into an argument and setting his room on fire, Gatineau firefighters say.
Officials say another boarder then broke in to the room at 166 St. Antoine Street to extinguish the blaze with a pot of water.
When crews arrived, the fire was out.
No one was injured, but the fire service said it has asked the Red Cross to take the other eight boarders in for a few nights because the nine-room house is not safe.
Police have taken over the investigation. Officials have yet to determine exactly how the man lit the fire or the cost of the damage.
