Man jumps from second-storey window in vain bid to escape police

A 48-year-old man jumped from a second-storey balcony in Centretown in a vain to escape from police who were executing a drug warrant at his home on Wednesday.

The Ottawa police tactical unit was executing the warrant for the street crime unit on Bank Street near Argyle Avenue after a three-week undercover investigation into drug trafficking in the area.

When police were executing the warrant, the man jumped from the balcony and landed on a car below. Police said the car was “severely” damaged from the impact.

Police later arrested the man at Gladstone Avenue and Kent Street.

Police seized $6,500 worth of cocaine, crack cocaine, hashish, marijuana, MDMA, morphine, codeine and stolen property believed to have been taken during break and enters.

Guy Côté, 48, faces several charges, including three counts of drug possession, three counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, one count of mischief over $5,000 and one count of resisting arrest.

Erin Doucette, 41, was charged with five counts of drug possession and four counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking,

Doucette was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.Côté was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
