The jobless rate in the National Capital Region in November hit the lowest level since in a year, dropping to 6.2 per cent from 6.6 per cent in October.
The drop in Ottawa-Gatineau jobless rate in November reflects an increase of 1,600 jobs and decline of 1,000 in the labour force.
The statistics showed big swings in the NCR job market in November versus October: Public administration jobs were down 6,300 to 144,600, education jobs rose 5,000 to a total of 59,900, professional services were down 3,300 while hotels were up 5,000.
Oddly, NCR tech jobs fell 3,400 in November from October to reach 49,100, the seventh straight monthly decline.
Nationally, the unemployment rate rose to 6.6 per cent from a six-year low of 6.5 per cent.
Canadian employment fell by 10,700 in November on declines in retail and professional services and part-time positions.
