The residents of a two-storey Edison Avenue apartment building were displaced Saturday afternoon after a fire broke out in the bedroom of one of the units.

Ottawa Fire Services got a 911 call reporting the fire at 712 Edison Ave. near Churchill Avenue and Carling Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they could see flames on the second floor and raised their ladders for a fast attack on the blaze. It was declared under control at 2:47 p.m.

The fire was confined to one room. All of the 23 residents were evacuated from the building and have not returned to the building. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting displaced residents with temporary housing.

Damage was estimated at $60,000 to the building and $10,000 to contents. The cause has not been determined. No one was injured.
