Gatineau firefighters worked for almost four hours to extinguish a stubborn blaze in a vacant building at 281 Laramée St. in the Lac des Fées sector.
Responders shortly after 11 p.m. at the two-storey building, which once contained four apartment units. Flames and heavy smoke were pouring from the front entrance.
Addition alarms were sounded for more personnel and equipment. At the height of the operation, there were 28 firefighters and a dozen trucks on the scene.
The fire was declared under control at about 3 a.m. There were no injuries.
An investigation into the cause is underway.
