Diamond Princess evacuee tests positive in Australia
From CNN’s Isaac Yee in Hong Kong

A 57-year-old woman, who was recently evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, has tested positive for novel coronavirus in Australia, officials confirmed.

The Queensland woman had been a passenger on the ship, which was docked in the Japanese port of Yokohama for over two-weeks under quarantine.
There are now 22 confirmed cases of the virus in Australia.

Paul Kelly, deputy chief medical officer, said in a statement that the woman is being moved from the Manigurr-ma Village quarantine facility in Darwin to Queensland for treatment.

There has been concern that efforts to contain the outbreak to the Diamond Princess have failed, with multiple cases of the virus confirmed among passengers who have since disembarked and returned home.

Infected evacuees: As of February 22, seven passengers who were evacuated from the Diamond Princess have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Australia.

Former Diamond Princess passenger dies
From CNN’s Junko Ogura in Tokyo and Mitch McCluskey in Atlanta.

A Japanese man in his 80s, who was previously on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship, has died from pneumonia, Japan’s health ministry confirmed on Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths of people who boarded the Diamond Princess to three.

The ministry did not disclose whether the man had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, citing a lack of consent from his family.

The man had pre-existing medical conditions, the ministry said.

CNN Health has reported that for those with a weakened immune system, the elderly and the very young, there's a chance the virus could cause a lower, and much more serious, respiratory tract illness like a pneumonia or bronchitis.

Four former passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship have tested positive for COVID-19, England’s chief medical officer announced Sunday.
The patients are being transferred to specialist NHS infection centers, Prof. Chris Whitty said in a statement posted on Twitter.

The four new cases bring the total number of cases in the UK to 13, he said.

Japanese authorities are in contact with all 23 passengers who were released from the Diamond Princess cruise ship by mistake, the country's health ministry told CNN, adding that at least three of those passengers have retested negative for the coronavirus.

According to the ministry, the 23 passengers in question were required to have a second test because their initial test came before February 5, when a ship wide quarantine was mandated.

Passengers who were in close contact with an infected person after their first test were also required to have a second test and a reset 14 day quarantine since last contact before receiving certification to disembark.

In terms of timing of the second test, the Japanese health ministry told CNN that there was no specific time window for those tests to take place, they just needed to be conducted during the passenger’s quarantine period.

An 83-year-old American woman was the only passenger from the MS Westerdam cruise ship to test positive for the novel coronavirus.

She has been retested and is now found to be negative, according to a statement from US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) spokesperson Erin Burns.

The woman had flown to Malaysia to catch a flight back hone, but tested positive for the coronavirus.
"Two sequential tests on samples from that same person were negative," Burns said.
The ship had more than 2,000 people on board and was denied port entry in several countries before Cambodia gave permission for it to dock, according to Holland America Line, the company that owns the cruise ship.

All passengers have disembarked from the ship, and "additional testing of more than 1,500 passengers from the Westerdam was negative," Burns said.
To date, none of the ship's passengers are confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus.

3 Russians from Diamond Princess ship test positive for coronavirus
From CNN’s Mary Ilyushina

Three out of eight Russians who were evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan were diagnosed with coronavirus, the head of Russian consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said Wednesday, state-run news agency TASS reported.
“We’ve evacuated Russian citizens from Japan, all eight of them were hospitalized under medical supervision, including three people who were diagnosed with a novel coronavirus in Japan,” Popova said according to TASS. “In those three patients, [coronavirus] was confirmed using several virological methods.”
The Diamond Princess cruise ship was previously under a 14-day quarantine in Japan, and more than 600 cases of the coronavirus have been linked to the vessel.
Popova added that all evacuated Russians and their families are under quarantine in the city of Kazan and "feeling well."

Previously, Russia reported two confirmed cases of coronavirus, both in Chinese nationals.

“Obviously, today we must admit that the possibility of coronavirus spreading further into the Russian Federation is certainly increasing,” Popova added. “The number of countries with coronavirus infection is increasing, it is better not to plan a trip abroad if there is no urgent need.”
