I guess most of you would agree that the goaltending is the key in the playoff. Looking back to those cup winners, none of them didn't have a great goalie. Belfour, Hasek, Roy, Brodeur and the list goes on and on. But of Sens, I think it could be an exception. Sens could still have touched the cup with a mediocre goaltender simply because its superior offence power. Sens scored the most goals in the regular season among all the NHL teams. But when playoff kicked off, they got shut-out 3 times and the goaltender sometimes even performed worse than AHL player. What's the problem with them? I believe it's the mentality issue. From the coach to the player, they don't have that kind of mindset as Leafs do. This directly translated into soft play in the games. What's the solution? It has to be a big sugery to the team. Martin has fulfilled his mission here, he has brought the Sens to today's height and won't be able to make it any better. Lalime should be gone as well as some core players. This club needs more fighting spirit than skills right now.
Martin's fore-cheking strategy is effective in regular season because other teams are not cheking as hard. However, it is proved once again inefficient under high intensity playoff games.
Jacque Martine has done a great job for Ottawa, Sens management team and fans have given him great trust and respect for the past 8 years. But now, I also believe it's time for him to leave, that seems to be the only way to end Ottawa's playoff drought. Unfortunitely Lalime will be blamed forever for ottawa's loss this year, despite his impressive performance during the season. Alfferson needs to go as well, ottawa needs a spirited fighter as captain. Having said that, I hope the management team will keep the talented young guys: Hossa, Havlet, spezza, scheffer, white...
Avas has always been my favorite team after ottawa ends its short playoff season. Go AVAs Go!
