Hi, depends on what kind of options you are looking for. I have to say if you look around, you could find something around the 70000km mark with about 14000 tax included. If you ask around the dealers you should be looking at between 120000km to 90000km for about that price. Those should be around 2001 to 2003, you could get the newer ones 2005 for about that price but you be looking at an abused car. Hope this helps

VW makes solid cars, Golf is always been their prize winning car. Golf always have good German suspension, solid engine, but not too much room for the back seat at all. I don't know which year or model you are looking for. GTI version has always been a great little machine, the newer ones are quite fast, great cornering. TDI does save little more gas than their jetta brothers, u can be expecting 1600km per tank of gas on the highway. the 2.0L engine is just the base model, its actually just like buying a civic hatchback, so really its just a price thing if u want it. If you are just looking for something like golf to drive around and not too fast and not too over priced, try the VW Rabbit. Its actually cheaper than the Golf, has a little go and pretty good on gas, lots of options and nice little car. hope this helps

The 2003 civic LX I would say above $10000, not not too much above, around that price. Of course honda's and toyota's are trusted by us asian buyers, there are always flaws, but nothing very expensive or alot to do, most the time just regular parts when the time is up you have to change on all cars.
$7000-$12000 is a big range, you can get used civics, accords, camrays, tibruons, accents, etc, many many. If you like the civic, i would suggest you to buy it because it does save more gas than most cars and with Honda's engine it will last you a very long time. It all depends on how you like the car. If you want smaller, toyota yaris, ehco, hyundia accents all are good cars. VW jetta 2.0L, very good too. The only reason I'm sugeesing a japanese car is that lots of parts and easy to fix later, and it don't brake down much.

Mazda Protege has different models such as LX, ES and SE. Some people say that they are different in horse-power and tires. Which one do you think is the best in performance and reliability? Seems like the sale prices of used LX are little bit cheaper than ES.

Hi, the LX model is the base model of the protege, I think its 105hp and its a 1.6L The ES is the 130hp engine and its a 2.0L. The SE came as the 122hp then in 2001 they got the 130hp same as the ES and MP3 version got the 140hp. And later on when the Mazda speed version came out it got the 2.0L 170hp turbo charged engine. The most reliable I have seen are the the SE with 122hp, because one it has a good engine, two it has mostly the things like the power options and such where the base model had very limited. If you are just looking for a daily driver I say the SE is the way to go it has the 1.8L 122hp engine. If you want performance, looks and reliability get the turbo charged 170hp SE because its worth it. Hope it helps

The only "repairs" I would see is change winter tires and oil changes and such, and whatever is covered under the warranty. You have many options, you can even get a new car for that price like the hyundia accent and toyota yaris hatchback and you can get them new for under your price.
If you perfeer 2nd hand, as I said civics and corrlas. If you don't like them, try Acura EL 1.7, you should get everything included with about 60000km or less on them. The yaris is an dome design like the VW beetle so it will stand up to high impact when in an accident, and it has been ranked high on safety standards. Inside there are 2 air bags in the front. And there is ABS available and EBD available that calculates the weight of the car and where more brake power is needed. Its a small car with regular horsepower, and smaller/thinner tires that are very good for winter driving.

Hi, I don't know a great deal about vans, I just know which ones people usually like. American ones Dodge Caravan is the most I seen people drive and had little problems, you can probably get 2006. Ford Winstar is old but its common too, but its like $2000ish. You could also try Mercury something, don't remember the name, I used to have one, very comfortable. JDM there is Honda Oddssy, won lots of prize and Mazda MVP, my friend has one, very reliable.
