bought a 320GB Maxtor One-Touch before, but crashed within 6months. you don't want to know how much it costs to recover all those data.

so i'd check out the brand, i.e. depending what you'll use it for, if it is for valuable personal data, i would choose quality over price. It's very painful to lose your data (and lots of them).

how do you guys think of LaCie? any experience with it? I want one that can be shared between my Mac and PCs, and LaCie seems to be a brand mentioned often among Mac communities.

Maxtor's quality is not good for both internal and external HDs.

I perchased a LaCie external HD( with Maxtor inside) a yr ago. It crashed in a week. After changed for a new one(WD inside), it worked great so far. So I think it really depands on what HD inside the LaCie's closure.

i'm heading out to buy the lacie now (my first boxing wk shopping trip), will see if they can tell me what is inside, or if they let me open it.
