Does anyone notice that for the 2008 Subara models, the warranty has been changed. You have to pay to the Canadian dealers first for the maintenance, and get reimburse from the US dealers based on the cost of the same work that is done in US, which means that you might have to pay higher here in Canada, but get less reimburse from the US dealer since the parts are usually cheaper in US.

I am still in the process of confirming that the 2007 models won't be affected by the new warranty statement that is effective on June 21, 2007, even though you buy it in September or later. I am thinking of importing a 2007 Impreza sport wagon. Anyone knows this car? Any opinion? I was told by a local Canadian dealer that its muffler has to be modified to meet the Canadian regulation, and will cost few thousands. I am wondering if that's true. I can't believe that.

包括ALL COSTS , TOTAL SAVING是 $9513 (加元).

Thank a lot for CCT's information. I wonder how do you get the temporary car plate for driving back to Canada?

YOU ARE LUCKY

The US dealer gave me the temporary plate of their state and I paid $28 (us) for it. It is valid for 60 days in both US and Canada.

I called several Toyota dealers in New York State. They told me that they could only sell it to me if I could provide them local address. In that situation, I have to pay the New York State Tax. Then I am wondering whether there is any difference in procedure and fee to import the vehicle.

Then I think it will be a used car import to canada instead of new car import.

First: You need to pay US tax.
Second: You need to register the car in NY state first and buy US auto insurance.
Third: You have to obtain "The Title" of the car (no MCO any more) from a MTO office of NY state.
Fourth: Pay GST and PST in Canada.
Fifth: In addition of RIV's "Federal Inspection", you have to pay for Safty check and E-test before you can register your car in Canada.

Try TOYOTA dealers in the states further south and not border with Canada.

1 or 2 years of used car is not bad. Could you point what makes the difference in financial cost between the two importations? BTW, I was told that I had to pay the New York State Tax as well for used cars.

Thanks for your detailed explanation!

I will definitely try some other states further south. On other hand, in case I am not lucky enough. I can at least find a state with lower state tax around 4-5%. I will be glad for the deal if there are no significant other costs. Could you confirm?

As I know, there is no other significant costs.

Some states don't have tax on Autos. I was told Deleware is one of them. But you need a friend or relative in those states to buy a car for you.

One thing I need to tell you, for pre-registered (second hand) car, you will be taxed based on the price listed in the Canadian Blue Book. Bassicaly, the GST and PST are based on Canadian price not on the US price you paid. This would result in $1400 more on GST and PST together for a price difference of $10000.

Sorry more questions inccurred by your answers

(1) Why do I need a friend or relative to buy a car, as it is still under my name?
(2) Even in my name, as it is registered in States, will it be still considered as pre-registered one?
