Car buying advice seeking - volkswagen golf

My car just broke down, and in a rush to get another.

Looking for a used economical car, preferable hatchback, been looking at Echo, but didn't find any hatchback. Then I saw this nice looking volkswagen golf 2003, 4 door hatchback, at similar price as Echo, but having the look that I really like.

I am trying to convince myself not to buy this, for reasons:

1. more expensive to repair than echo
2. less fuel efficient
3. higher insurance
4. please add on...

Am I right, how true are the above statement?

I will go with German ... and the additional cost doesn't really add up to that much.

just found out for insurance, if liability only, golf is way less (~$300) than Echo. But for full coverage, the two end up being similar.

同意飞鸟同学的建议。 别都听旁人的， 你要看自己的要求是什么。 天天亲自开的东西， 一定买一个自己喜欢的， 否则一天别扭两三次，多闹心啊。

当然也要考虑全面。 我原来那辆车就是很舒服很开心， 后来油价涨起来以后， 每星期加油的时候就痛苦一次， 最后终于换了一辆省油的车， 不闹心了。

所以要想好自己要求的条件是什么， 哪个条件排在最前边。 有的人要酷， 有的人要省油， 有的人要安全。。。 。。。 你呢？

I like small hatchbacks, Hatchbacks are very pratical and efficient for carrying stuff. I like saving on gas too. Too bad can't find any Echo hatchback on the market now.

I don't care coolness, sportiveness, but I really like the classy, squary look of the Golf hatchback. Too bad it is bad on fuel consumption. But although looks please the eyes, I understand it is lower prority when it comes to choosing a functional vehicle.

I think it is an ugly car

after a second look at it (one that I just rented), I realize its style is quite different from Golf. Only resemblance is the number of doors and the hatchback.
