"West Carleton Secondary School opened its door to students in September of 1988. We serve the rural West Carleton Community and more urban Kanata areas such as Morgan's Grant and Shirley's Brook. As a composite school of approximately 700 students and 60 staff, we offer a full range of program opportunities to our students.
With consistently high scores in both Board Wide and Provincial standardized tests, our students enjoy a stimulating and challenging academic environment as well as an opportunity to participate in a large variety of optional programs. Situated on a large property on Dunrobin Road, we have access to 107 acres of forest, field and wetland and incorporate our unique location into our academic program through field trips, outdoor education and the use of our "outdoor classroom" environment.
A full range of Technology courses, including a new and innovative "Technical Internship Program" is available. Grade 9 students can choose our Integrated Technology course and students can select Transportation, Construction or Communication Technology in grades ten to twelve.
Our Arts program is strong, with Music, Visual Art, Computer Art, Photography and a four-year Dance program from which to select.
In addition to our broad range of course selections, we also have a vibrant and very active extra-curricular program. Fielding as many teams as schools much larger, we are a force to be reckoned with on the field, court and ice. Our Student Council is enthusiastic and active in providing opportunities to all students and in promoting fundraising for worthy causes.
School Council meets most months on the third Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the library and parents and the community are always welcome."
