上了3次课后，3个感受

并不是我can't argue for 我views。 只是有些事你得真实了解，不是靠报纸，要信报纸的话，那我们难道都要相信达赖老头是最善良的人？老毛头吃小孩？
我和我提到的这些种族的人都有讨论过这个问题，不是peer to peer的讨论，那样我也不敢随便下结论。不过我还是为你感到骄傲，来了加拿大能让子女用中文名字不容易啊。我觉的不用想到往后，只要我们这一代做到就够了，因为往后我们做过的事和有过的思想将会是下一代及他们的下一代议论的话题。

Just because you can't argue for your views doesn't mean you have to resort to some insulting things to say. By the way, not sure what pho bo ga is.

All my children are born here, all have Chinese names, all still speak fluent Chinese (although they want to use it less and less).

Trust me, when you children reach 15 years old, count your blessing if they still speak Chinese and share your current views. I am willing to bet that they won't.

我所了解到的和你不一样，我一个包头的朋友没包头，就此话题展开过讨论，她告诉我说这个不是必须的。但是我看的古兰经上说必须的。这个controversy我们也不好说，毕竟我们的姑娘也不包头。但是名字的含义也是和我们的一样，都是有意义的，例如说希望姑娘聪慧，美丽，希望男子健康，强壮。他们改名字不受宗教约束。都来了加拿大了，他们的阿訇也不是他们以前的阿訇了。他们不想改是不希望失去了Origin的含义，因为他们已经失去了很多。

Indians and Middle-east people can't just change their name due to religious reasons as I mentioned earlier.

The Muslims, in particular, is ever harsher. If they change their names to western one, they are considered to betray their religion, punishable by dead.

This I agreed.

Even now, they think the kinds of thing we argued (I've shown them some of the topics, like the 60 Celebration) here are useless and they would say: "C'mon, get a life, you guys argue for stupid thing like that?"

That might not be a bad thing, because this mean they don't accept our political persuasions (either it is pro-government or pro-freedom) to the homeland, and they could surely move on in their own ways here.

名字是个符号，是个代码，也代表了一定的文化内涵和民族之自信。举个例子，譬如你对洋人说：Mao Tse-Tung, 无论他的政治立场如何，他也会肃然起敬。但如果老毛取了个洋名字，叫Divid Mao 什么的，那效果肯定要大打折扣。可是对于普通人，无论你叫Tong Yang或叫Dick Ma，本来就是个无人知晓的小人物，所以叫什么东东影响都不大、也无伤大雅，但如果你叫Jack, 在北美机场会害死熟人的。

其实孩子说这样的话挺正常的，如果没有被党熏陶过，谁又会有要庆祝的60大寿的强烈思想感情呢！

但中英文名字就不同了，不需要党的历史，完全是一个美丽的personal含义及一点点的origin attachment.

他父亲已经去世了，他有很多节目都是dedicated to his father。。。

Eric and Maureen Peters ... Actually, his father's last name was Peters.

很多国家的女人结婚后，改成丈夫的姓。所以，Peters应该是他父亲的姓。

中国过去也如此，例如香港的陈方安生，陈是她丈夫的姓。

I think 基督徒 thinks so .

Actually most Chinese 基督徒 gave their children two names, the original is Chinese, then added the Christian name in front. But this only applies to 1st generation Chinese because by the 2nd or 3rd generations, these generations don't speak or know Chinese anymore. And unless the 1st gen grandpa (or in the old days, community elders) is still alive to give them a Chinese name, then they most likely ended up with a western style (not necessary Christian) names.

This is sad, but fact.
