说英文和英文名字不是一回事，我以前也有英文名字的，后来不用了。人都是在成长中学习的。老师，同学，老板，客户，同事，一路过来让我明白了名字不仅仅是个code。

为什么你说英文???????

I couldn't speak for races like Korean (I know quite a few are using Christian names) and Japanese (did you find out why they spell the way they do? I don't but I do know they are very easy to pronounce) . And Indian? They don't change their names due to their religious reasons, just like you don't see any middle-east people change their names.

I don't know are why you so upset about it. You keep saying by changing names means we have no principle or other noble causes, but that is just your opinions.

Others have already pointed out, westerners in China also using Chinese names to make their business dealings easier and nobody in the West are bitching about it.

Time to give this a rest.

and the reason japanese/korean sometimes don't use english name is because THEIR ENTIRE LANGUAGE HAS BEEN SYSTEMATICALLY DE-CHINESE-FIED AND WESTERNIZED IN THE LATE 1800. In other words, they don't have to...

Just because you can't argue for your views doesn't mean you have to resort to some insulting things to say. By the way, not sure what pho bo ga is.

All my children are born here, all have Chinese names, all still speak fluent Chinese (although they want to use it less and less).

Trust me, when you children reach 15 years old, count your blessing if they still speak Chinese and share your current views. I am willing to bet that they won't.

I have been reading G&M for over 30 years until 5 years ago, just to let you know, due to expense I could no longer afford any newspappers.

Your answers for the Japanese just prove my point, isn't it? Because they have already did.

To a certain extent, the Romanise Pingyin to the Chinese names the Mainland government did have similar effect. It make it easier for the westerners to pronounce it, compared to those from Hong Kong, Taiwan and South-East Asia.

Yes, exactly.

Except Chinese. Many other Asian ethnics, Korean, Japanese, Indian, living in the West hold tight to their native names -- even if they were born in the Western countries.

Then I dare them to criticize that the Jews don't use Jewish names (and last names too), and I don't think they will dare. All these are just political grand-standing.

G&M, National Post and Canwest newspapers have been digging for reasons for years to criticize the Chinese's cultures and thinkings, why would you be surprised? And by the way, if we don't, they will say we don't brand in their society.

For example (I know this is off topics now), if there are Chinese in China claimed we invented something, those newspaper will print the news, but every time, they would add the line "The Chinese has historically made a lot of controversial claims". On the other hand, if it is the West or Japanese making the claim, it is fact.

Just look at the noddle, they still believe the Italians invented it.

Indians and Middle-east people can't just change their name due to religious reasons as I mentioned earlier.

The Muslims, in particular, is ever harsher. If they change their names to western one, they are considered to betray their religion, punishable by dead.
