This one is pretty cool. In the United States, the National Academies, comprised of National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council publish a lot of books and reports on yearly basis. As of June 2, more than 4000 reports have been made available to web visitors for free.
All of the materials are avialable at nap.edu. You can navigate to any book and access it for free (you do need to provide a valid email address). Books can be read online, or downloaded in PDF form. There are a huge number of topics, including biology & life sciences, computers & information technology, conflict & security issues, education, energy & energy conservation, food & nutrition, health & medicine, math, chemisty, physics, space & aeronautics and more!
