Ottawa judge makes his mark on big cases

Charles Hackland, the Ottawa judge whose ruling could put Toronto Mayor Rob Ford out of office, is becoming a “go-to” judge for big, politically sensitive cases, prominent members of the Ottawa bar say. On Monday, Hackland made history, and a tidal wave of news, by writing the words: “I declare the seat of the respondent Robert Ford on Toronto city council vacant.”
