I wish dead poeple are not Chinese --- Damn OC transpo

I think you are missing Mitsumi's point: it was in response to the title of this post - I wish dead poeple are not Chinese --- Damn OC transpo. I was really stunned by it too: why does it matter what the victims' race is? Why has it even been brought up as an issue?! (no offense to Rock :))

Thank you jj, you got my point

This is fine, but not if it was “天啊, 但愿有事的不是他儿子。” That just implies something very negative.

Maybe I should say in ENGLISH:

I wish no Chinese was involved in that tragedy. Any objection?
Any offence?

I :zhichi: this statement if it said "I wish NOBODY was involved in that tragedy". I am still objecting the notion of "damning' the OC transpo driver. We don't know what happened so let's not jumpt to conclusions.

(1) Wording One

(2) Wording Two

"Non whites invades Barheaven" 和"No white invades Barheaven"

#2 still offends me. Your statement implies you wish the death was somebody not chinese. I wish you would just leave the race out of it.

That's the exact some problem with that councillor. By stating the word "non-wite" she's implying that whites do not cause any violence or assault, which is total BS.

Tragedies are equally tragic. Basically that's right. But the sorrow still can be different at some degree. Think about this way, if your friend had been hurt in this accident, you probably would feel more sorrow about it. You can say no, but I can say for most of people(including me) the answer is yes.

It's fine to be more concerned about a group of people because they are your friends, but its dangerous to be more concerned about a group of people because of their race. I don't distinguish who my friends are based on their skin color.

I wish my friend was not involved in that accident."

This is all fine, because it implies a personal concern. What you said was about the entire race. In other words, it was not personal, it didn't involve your friends or family members, it was a broad and generalized statement regarding the race of the victims.

"I wish dead people are not Chinese". This was my first reaction to your title: if they are not, phew! then it is of no concern to you, and you don't even care if they are dead or not. This was what made me feeling uncomfortable about.

I wish no Chinese was involved in that tragedy. Any objection? Any offence?
Yes! It implies that the victims in the tragedy is that much less a victim simply because they are not Chinese! Their race DOES NOT MATTER unless they affect you on a personal level.

I sincerely hoped that you didn't mean that, just like I'd hope that Jan Harder didn't mean what she said regarding the Somalian gang. Similar to the Harder incident, I believe you were well-intended, but the wording came out wrong and it was inappropriate.

Thanks for your comments any way that lets us know different or inapprociate English expressions could cause concerns from other people.

Of course I won't say any word like "Not Chinese" in the English dominated environment. I never said any race related words in the office, nor in the public / local environment.

Again, mourn with deep grief to that family.

I apologize if I've offended you. You have the right to be more concerned about chinese community. But your title, I think it translates as "我希望死的人不是中国人“, really upsets me. Just imagine if I were sri lankan, and I said "I wish the dead people are not sri lankan", how would that make you feel?

I think we have misunderstood each other, but I know you are a good man with good intentions for your family and friends, and i respect your for that

I admit my wordings did cause some misunderstandings. I found limited English written patterns did twist what is really in mind.

I believe those expressing concern on my title should work or live in an environment where you know much about English language feelings brought by different expressions. I do appreciate this kind of thought exchange to make people better use English.
