我总觉得您好像要给基督教清理门户的感觉。而且后来，您说让上帝派只猫来，您是不是把自己给绕进去了。当然我这提醒不厚道，可实在忍不住说出来。

就是采用孔子的“敬鬼神而远之。“，您好像没有采用。Confucius said "be respectful for gods, but keep a distance from them.' i never believed i gods though as a kid i believed in the existence of ghosts. if i do not believe, no need to keep a distance.

我在担心一些问题。比如说，人类社会发展到一定阶段以后，好像是需要一定的条件才能迈入下一个门槛的，否则就是灾难。比如在进入原子能时代之前，灭掉日本军国主义和纳粹希特勒。那么基因技术的全面掌握和应用会不会让人类社会迈入下一个门槛，在进入这个门槛前，需要什么条件？要知道基因技术几乎就是造人的技术。

当然对于没有发生的事情，我只能猜测。

当然对于没有发生的事情，我只能猜测。

a word in a dictionary has many entries for explanation.

u can win somebody over to your side
but you can also win over an enemy.
u can win a battle
but lose a war
and u can also win a heart.

another example `die'
can mean:
cease to be alive
or
reach sexual climax

do not question someone's english even if he or she uses a wrong word or grammar. that is called decency. english is my 3rd language and so far i am ok with it. mandarin is my 2nd language. i live with my mistakes and others' mistakes in use of language.

Looks like you either don't understand my point at all, or trying to deliberately twist my point.

This is what I said. "doing the right thing at the right time". If you don't understand what it means, just ask people here for help, or find someone to read my line and explain it to you. If you want to blame Chinese people for the existence of the regime, or if you want to compare China with the countries of your favorite category, be my guest. You don't have to try so hard to twist the meaning of other people's words, or to try so desperately to put your words into other people's mouth. It will only make you look desperate.

yokel, do not throw so many things at me at one time. u overwhelmed me. not everyone has your level of intelligence. let us go slow (u can also say go slowly if u want to be grammatically correct)

"doing the right thing at the right time". how did u know it is the right time and the right thing? what if the two things never cross each other's path? a mouse also waits for the right time to do the right thing; but unfortunately, as soon as it gets out of its hole, a cat is waiting for it. u can also call folks waiting for the right moment to strike opportunistic.

Lets me just give you one of the differences between China and Nepal because I am tired of listing differences to you and you don't seem to understand anyway. Nepal is a country that can not even take care of Mao guerrillas. Any guerrillas in China? Did Nepal government use machine guns and tanks on its citizens/protesters?

yokel, no excuse for your failures. u and i do not have the courage of the young man who blocked the colummn of tanks in Beijing in 1989 and u and i do not have the courage of standing up and fighting. instead, u and i babble in a foreign country or two foreign countries. u and i do not even the courage of the communists under KMT rule. they faced death, starvation, siege, imprinsonment, torture and what else they did not suffer from.how can cowards win even a battle? if you choose not to fight against tyranny, you will be tyrannized, or like me running away.

By the way who told you the British army was "far more powerful than the American farmer army"? The British army did not even have the power to fight the Indipendence that was declared a year before the American-British war.

Yes, I may feel "gratifying" and "uplifting" in that situation, and I think many people may feel similar way. But the difference between you and rest of us is nobody but you will feel "soul is washed clean there" because it was you who believes whatever "gratifying" and "uplifting" is like religions. It's too late to deny that you are the one who believes that "Religion is like sex." or "Religion is like sh*ting!" based on your logic, and keeps telling us "that is a statement made by many others." Trying so hard to impose your logic and your understanding of religions on others only makes you even more pathetic.

- The war between the Communist and the KMT during 46 to 49 was not for or about democracy in China at all. Instead it's one of the bloodiest civil wars on earth and more and more people find the war was not justified. It makes your argument totally irrelevant to the subject (improving democracy).

- The civil war was about Mao's personal dream to be an emperor, his hunger for power and he did not care much about how many Chinese would die during the civil war. It had nothing to do with democracy.

- Your example was about army fighting army militarily, not about citizens fighting government peacefully. By that example you are inciting the bare-handed citizens fighting government and army. You can see how desperate your argument is.

u were smart not to take sides on important issues; but this way, u exposed yourself to the danger of being attacked from both sides.

these things (cloning, ivf, nukes) are ok with me. the concern here is the overreach. do u know icarus? dr. faustus? frankenstein? hitler? they all seemed overreachers to me. empires do rise and fall. some fall because of overreach.

we r the same as yokel; the only difference is we do not claim to be better than him or her. he or she asked this one to correct grammar mistakes and that one to learn history lessons. he has yet learned to be humbled.

it was rainning pretty heavy (not cats and dogs yet) this morning when i drove work. it is like summer here in the south. how about ottawa? tulips will be on display soon, i guess. i like autumn in ottawa. we used to take a walk almost every weekend at Gatineau Park. we camped at Lake Philips; it was so quiet at night.
