Should one consider taking the offer of a government term position?
What is the difference between the term and RFT in terms of job security, pay, pension plan and other benefits?
Once in the term, would you be considered as internal employee and would it be easier to transfer to other full-time ones if any available?

I came to Ottawa for a term position in the government. Well, term means you have a possible expiry date for your appointment. But things change overtime. almost all the term employees around me become permanent eventurally. Also, if your term renewable to 3 years, you will be automatically becoming permanent employee.
There is no difference in terms of pension, medical, vacation and other benefits between term employee and permanent employee.
If the term is the best choice you can get to start with. my advice would be: Grab it or you will find yourself sobbing for regretfulness.

问一个过于简单, 但很关键的问题: 有没有中介机构? 如果有,你的工资是谁发, 政府还是中介机构?

中介机构发钱的应该都是contract吧. Government Term是有所有福利的, 包括养老保险, 所以基本上都是政府发. 我还不知道中介机构发钱给Government Term position, 可能有特例吧.

Not all government are the same.
Example
Service Canada is government department
Canada revenue agency is a government agency.

Service Canada salary is paid by treasure board; a term employee would be permanent after three years continued service for same department. It is the treasure board policy.
CRA salary is paid by CRA; it may not follow this rule. It would be depend on union. I heard because they have so many seasonal works, they just keep you layoff for few months every year, so you wouldn’t be permanent.

You need to be aware the followings when you take a position with the federal government:
1. The government doesn't use term of "permanent" anymore. Instead, they use the term of "indeterminate". Therefore, theoretically speaking, no such a permanent job in the government anymore. However, in practice, indeterminate almost equals to permanent.

2. 3-yr term employee to indeterminate one. Different Departments have their own policy. I don’t know it is the TB policy now. I doubt it.

3. From term positions to indeterminate ones depends upon many factors, varying from one position to the other. You can’t assume you will have a good chance to become an indeterminate employee. You may, and you also may not. You need to do some home work to see the possibilities before making a decision.​

4. Away from 3-yr rule, all term employees need to compete for the indeterminate positions. By the rule, nobody can transfer you from a term position to an indeterminate one.

当然，term employee转正的机会很高。而且最近刚修改的公务员就业条例(PSEA)里把Term Employee休产假/父母假的时间也算作三年工龄内。

If you don't have job now, take it! however, if you already have a not-too-bad job right now, then you need to ask some questions like how long the term will be or if there is oppotunity to renew it or to become a indeterminate employee.

I do not think term job is good, if you already have a permanet job, do not take the term, otherwise, you will find out that you have to work like a dog to keep it.

They have Union, they will protect you.
Cannot say "1 cup tea, 1 piece newspaper" happyness life,
but "work like a dog" in public sector? Forget it!

For term employee, I do not think they have union.

the only diff. between term & perm is you need to renew your term, no more also no less.

if you do not get your term renewed, you have to leave. The union cannot get you a job. so why do they need union? For perm, the union can protect you from being shredded but in your probabtion period, you can still be shredded.
