"Accusing union leaders of being out of touch with their members, the city asked the minister to order the vote. Mr. O’Brien believes union members will accept the offer if they are given a chance to vote on it.

But Mr. Cornellier said he won’t allow a vote that could, potentially, divide the members because the booking issue affects only a few hundred workers."

Labour minister asks transit union to explain opposition to vote


OTTAWA • Federal Labour Minister Rona Ambrose says she will decide whether or not to intervene in Ottawa’s transit strike after she receives and reviews submissions from Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279’s leaders, which she expects by Tuesday.

“I’ve asked the union provide me their views on this request,” Ms. Ambrose said. “Once I’ve heard from both parties, I will decide.”

She didn’t say exactly when the decision would be made.

CTV News has learned the federal labour minister is expected to step in and overrule the leadership of Ottawa's striking Amalgamated Transit Union by ordering transit workers to vote on the city's latest contract offer, which could put an end to a three-week-old transit strike that has crippled the nation's capital.

Senior Conservative sources told CTV News on Monday the labour minister could order the union to put the issue to a vote as early as Tuesday.

Although the city wants transit workers to vote on their latest offer, many drivers marching the picket lines Monday told CTV Ottawa they will reject the proposal.

"No way, no way . . . not going to vote for it," said one striking bus driver.

"The drivers aren't going to accept it. We say, we stay out until the scheduling issue is off the table," added another striking worker.

说老实话要是把老职工的特权拿掉，现在那帮老司机也挺惨。他们当新司机的时候和现在的新司机一样是不平等地位，他们当时就盼着媳妇儿熬成婆的那一天，好容易熬成了婆，婆婆的特权没了，你说他们能不急吗？另外还有那些半老司机，眼瞅着就熬成婆了...

It's is ordered by a Judge that, the union can picket at the site but cannot block anyone to go in or out. The union are limited to no more than 10 union members to picket at each exit.
