Ottawa firefighters responded in force Monday night to rescue a young man who suffered a relatively minor injury after a slip-and-fall in difficult spot.
Ottawa paramedics received a call just before 9 p.m. for a 22-year-old man who had suffered leg injuries after a fall onto some boulders under the Portage Bridge linking Ottawa and Gatineau.
Paramedics were unable to move the man due to his precarious position on the 30-40-degree slope and the fire service’s rope rescue team was summoned.
Rescuers strapped the victim into a mountaineering stretcher and lifted him to ground level, where paramedics took over the operation.
He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
